Policy different from other car rentals

BE WARNED: This rental company WILL find a way to uncharge you at the counter for a seemingly inexpensive rental. I declined insurance coverage because BOTH my insurance company and the rental company confirmed that my coverage was adequate over the phone and upon arrival at the counter I was told that my 100,000/300,000 coverage was inadequate and they require 300,000/500,000. They required I pay an additional $40 for my three-day rental (essentially doubling the original price). It was going to be $45 on my credit card but they dropped it to $40 since I paid cash, which seems highly suspect to me. I called my insurance company from the counter and they were willing to raise my coverage limits for the month, which would have cost me about $6-$7 but the counter associate told me that they couldn't accept that change - even if my insurance carrier faxed proof of higher coverage directly to their office - because it has to be in effect for 30 days or else it won't be "in the system". Had we not been on a schedule, I would have cancelled the reservation and gone elsewhere, even if I had to pay more to a different company, just to avoid these scam artist. This company offers very inexpensive bookings up front and then finds all sorts of ways to add charges if you are not careful (if you bring the car back with less gas, $25 fee PLUS $9 per gallon; if you don't purchase their toll pass transponder and go through tolls, they charge $25 PER TOLL you pass through). Spend the extra money to book with a reputable company who isn't going to try to rob you.

I have been renting cars in Florida for 25 years. I always have a pleasant experience. Right Cars was absolutely horrendous. From the moment I picked up the car until drop off. The car was unsafe and dirty. Ontop of that, the customer service made the experience the absolute worst. When I went to pick up the car, the supervisor, Oscar wanted to charge me extra insurance because I didn't have the "sufficient coverage". I called my agent infront of him, and she assured me that I had more than enough coverage. He argued for about 25 minutes claiming this $300,000 property provision was in the terms and conditions when I booked. I pulled up the terms and conditions infront of him, read them aloud, and no where did it state a property provision. Our declaration stated we had enough coverage as well as the fact that I have $500,000 in liability. He was rude, nasty, and extremely condescending. He seemed happy to argue with me. The vehicle was absolutely disgusting. Myself and my daughters were grossed out to sit in it. All four windows, including the windshield were dirty and didn't look like they were ever cleaned from the inside. There was some sort of glue all over the middle of the windshield which was a huge distraction while driving at night. The car had an abrupt shake if you went over 55 mph. In addition, the car had over 30,000 miles on it. In all of my years of renting a car, they have never had anything close to 30,000 miles. We returned to Right Cars to get into another argument. I told Oscar about the condition of the car and the shaking. He did not seem phased. I filled up the car and upon returning it, it was down by one tick of gas. He insisted he must charge me a $50 gas fee. I had to have my daughter drive the car to the nearest gas station to fill up 1 gallon of gas. This made us late to the airport, requiring us to take an Uber. He was rude and did not care that he was making us late at all. Terrible experience and I will never rent again.

You need to ask someone to call the rent a car for them to pick you up. They tell you to use the courtesy phone; but the phone doesn't work.
