Picking up the car was convenient. They happily agreed to delay the pickup time after contacting them, and also extended the return time accordingly. Returning the car was fast and easy, with no pushy insurance sales tactics. The rental and billing explanations were clear. I rented a mid-sized car and got a free upgrade to a compact SUV, fortunately, as it had enough space for our luggage.

Avis was good, EXCEPT, they made two unauthorized charges to our credit card with no explanation, or copy of a receipt that may help. We dropped car off early in the day, so no attendant. Avis was also aware of extended rental, as the desk attendant had to ask another attendant about what to do, and we assumed that this was allowed for, but it wasn’t reflected on our rental agreement. Very difficult to reach anyone at Avis to discuss this. Placed on hold for over an hour, so I just hung up. I will try again to reach them to discuss these issues.

I will be expecting a refund on this guarantee once I receive a receipt from Avis. They have not given us a receipt for the rental, to explain unauthorized charges to our card, that we do NOT know the reason behind.

I went to the store to pick up the car, but when I arrived, the store was closed—due to Independence Day in the US—and there was no prior notification. After contacting them by phone, we were told to pick up the car at the airport, which cost an additional $20 for the ride. At the airport, they charged an extra $40 for the pickup, leading to a total of $60 additional costs and wasting a lot of time. Why wasn't I notified in advance? Poor service.

Renting a car is quite easy. Just prepare the necessary documents and it takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. When signing the contract, check if there are any extra fees and inform the staff to cancel unnecessary items.

“Good customer service, car functional but not pretty to look at!”

The customer service was excellent at the counter - no hard-selling and a small queue which were things we had previously experienced with other trips. The agent was really helpful and gave advice about the weather and toll pass. The young man who assisted us on the return was lovely too. The car itself was disappointing though, not clean inside, previous customer's paper work was still inside with personal details suggesting the car had not been cleaned, in addition there were food particles in the cup holders. I cleaned everything with anti-septic wipes as we were concerned about covid. There were dents on the driver's door, scrapes on the boot and damage to the bottom of the front and back passenger doors and the trim was hanging off. The car was clearly well used as had 27,000 miles on the clock which is unusually high for a rental car. The car ran well and we had no mechanical problems. We arrived later than expected due to a delay at Heathrow and it was getting dark so we didn't see the condition of the exterior of the car and I was able to clean the interior myself, in addition we had a long drive ahead the next morning which was why we didn't take the car back to change it, if we had stayed locally we probably would have asked to exchange it. It didn't spoil our holiday in any way but we were disappointed with the car's condition
