Like: When I arrived I asked and got a free upgrade to a Hyundai iq which was ideal because of the long trip I had. The car was great good on fuel real easy to drive and it was brand new. Would actually recommend buying one
Dislike: There’s not much I didn’t like except I had to extend my hire one extra day which cost almost half the price as the whole hire which wasn’t ideal but all in great service

Like: The team at Europcar were great, even though we did not get the car we reserved they looked after us with providing an upgrade, it was a nice surprise my kids are still talking about the Jaguar SUV we drove to Melbourne in.
Dislike: Our only disappointment was the fact we did not get the car we reserved due to heavy smoker, however the Europcar team came to the rescue and upgraded our vehicle, very nice touch considering the situation.

I did have some problem as I was still charged with additional 2 child care seats ( although I only used 1) despite going to the counter and rectify it before I drove off. I saw the counter lady made the correction in the system.The receipt was finalised a few days later and by then I noticed it was still on it. That was my only problem. Other than that everything was good.

The car rental point at the airport is located right at the arrival exit, which is very convenient. Since I arrived at night, it wasn't peak time for picking up cars, so I only encountered one person ahead of me in line. The wait time was very short, indicating a fast processing speed. UnionPay cards are definitely accepted, and since I paid the full amount in advance, I didn't face any extra upselling from the staff. They didn't push sales aggressively, which is better than in Europe or America. I only had to provide a credit card for the pre-authorization deposit. Unlike in the US, my credit card wasn't charged sporadically. After picking up the car, I could take my luggage cart directly to the pickup point, which is about a 3-minute walk. The car was in good condition, and although the model wasn't upgraded, there were plenty of models available, possibly because it was the off-season.

The service was poor. When I went to pick up the car at Sydney Airport, a lady attended to me. Not only did she try to upsell insurance, but the procedure took so long that we couldn't get the car immediately. She said she needed to confirm something with the headquarters and asked us to wait. After a long wait, she was nowhere to be found. Her colleague told us she had already finished her shift! Thankfully, a male colleague helped us to finally get the car. It was not a pleasant experience. Other rental companies had already processed numerous cars by that time. Plus, the cost was higher than what was listed on the website, which was odd.

I used Hertz in Melbourne and Europcar in Sydney, and the difference was huge. Hertz gave me a free upgrade, while Europcar downgraded my car. The vehicle was in poor condition, and they pushed insurance on me. I had booked an Outlander but got a mini version instead. I'll stick with big companies in the future (the heavy Indian accent was also hard to understand).

The queue was quick. Surprisingly, this rural area in Australia still has manual cars. It's not that I can't drive a manual, but Australia has right-hand drive vehicles. To be safe, I wasted money upgrading to an automatic. Forcing customers to spend a lot on-site for an upgrade!

The female staff member was slow and kept wandering off to talk to others. She seemed discriminatory towards Chinese people, asking if I was Chinese, and once confirmed, the paperwork became excessive and time-consuming. Every single document was copied multiple times, which was not required at other counters or with other tourists. Previously, we rented from other companies and the process took only 5 minutes. She took over 45 minutes even though I emphasized I was only renting for half a day and was in a hurry. Despite being clear that I didn't need anything extra, she insisted on adding an extra driver fee (which I didn't have to pay on previous days in Australia) and sneakily added full insurance despite my refusal. Due to the time pressure, I didn't notice it until later. If I could rate her negatively, I certainly would. Never renting from this company again.

I went to pick up the car with a printed order and English translation. A rude overweight woman saw I was Chinese and demanded an international driving permit and NATI certified translation. Ended up not renting the car. I asked for a non-rental certificate, but she said I wasn't her customer and should contact the third-party. Really bad experience. I then rented a car from AVIS without any issues. Definitely a bad review for this company!

Extremely satisfied, overall rating 9.5. Firstly, the car was automatically upgraded to a KIA, the car was very new with less than 8000 KM on it. The trunk was very spacious and could fit three 24-inch large suitcases. The car came with adaptive lane keeping assist, which was fantastic. It was my first time driving a right-hand drive vehicle, and I was initially very worried that I wouldn't manage. However, with the assistive driving feature, I got used to it in about 20 minutes. On the first day, fearing I might struggle with the right-hand drive, I chose to drive to the suburbs for half a day and covered 260 kilometers. The acclimatization process was very smooth throughout.

There might have been a mistake in recording the mileage when returning the car. They insisted that I drove over 400 kilometers and deducted more than 100 dollars from me. In reality, I only drove within the city and it definitely wasn't over 100 kilometers. After several communications with the rental company’s customer service, this amount was refunded.

I booked a full-size SUV, with the reference model being the Kluger (Highlander). However, they first gave me a Forester, which I refused. The staff then tried to gaslight me, implying that I was causing trouble. After a long back-and-forth, they gave me a RAV4. When I insisted again on a full-size SUV, they tried to hand me an X-Trail. Finally, they unwillingly provided me with an old Prado, which was extremely difficult to drive. This kind of blatant downgrade of the vehicle and unapologetic attitude is something I've never experienced with Europcar before. Avoid at all costs!

Tricky practices—if you're not careful, you'll be forced into buying insurance. Rental fee is over 200, but insurance costs more than 500. No display signs, no clear explanations, just a vague mention that you'll receive an email. By the time I saw the email, it was already too late. I want to remind fellow renters that during the car pickup process, it’s essential to confirm with the rental office that you’re getting the exact model you requested. Since I needed space for two golf bags, I specifically chose a medium SUV, the Toyota RAV4, when placing my order. However, after completing the paperwork and heading to the parking lot with my luggage, I saw that the car was actually a small SUV. I had to carry my luggage back to the counter and communicate with them to get it changed to a RAV4. This took an additional 10 minutes, but thankfully, the issue was eventually resolved.
