Booked online, presented the order, credit card, passport, driver's license, and a translator device at the airport store. Very convenient. However, there was a small trick; they asked us to prepay for a tank of fuel for the return, claiming it would save time since gas stations are hard to find. Later we found out that gas stations in US cities are as common as pharmacies in China, so there's no need to worry about finding a place to refuel.

Avoid Hertz. The specified Volkswagen model was not available, even after walking around the entire parking lot twice. The real issue came afterward. The so-called roadside assistance was practically non-existent. I called twice at 11:00 AM Eastern Time and nobody answered for over half an hour. It wasn't until 2:00 PM that someone finally picked up. I drove the faulty car to two nearby Hertz locations for a replacement, but no cars were available. They only had lower-tier models available from other locations. To get a similar model, I was told to drive back 300 km to New York Airport. When returning the car, I was charged 1000 RMB for fuel because the tank was only a quarter full.

The reserved car model was unavailable, so they replaced it and charged us again. Why wasn't the deposit for the reserved model refunded?

Hertz is truly a big company; the entire process was very organized and user-friendly. The vehicle provided was in excellent condition. When we picked up the car, we noticed some scratches on the wheel. After showing photos to the service desk, they said it was fine. Upon returning the car, they simply checked the odometer and fuel level and completed the inspection. They had held a $200 deposit when we picked up the car, which was promptly refunded to our card after the inspection. It was really fast.
