The vehicle was ok. There appeared to be a judder felt through the steering wheel from a certain speed, disappearing at a higher speed.
Gears were difficult to operate.
General drive was good and the seating was comfortable.
I booked a Passat because I was traveling with a family of four with quite a bit of luggage. The Passat has good passenger and trunk space, which suited our needs. However, when I arrived at the rental office, they gave me a Volkswagen T-Roc, which is much smaller. The Passat is 4.8 meters long, while the T-Roc is only 4.3 meters. They claimed it was the same category, but the passenger space and trunk size were significantly smaller. The T-Roc is essentially a raised Golf, and I couldn’t even fit my luggage. The cabin space was tight, making long-distance travel very uncomfortable. I was completely stunned—I couldn’t even take the car because my luggage wouldn’t fit. I argued with them for over ten minutes, during which they provided some alternative options, like an Audi A5 or A7, but only if I paid extra. This felt completely unreasonable. I’ve rented cars overseas dozens of times and have experienced free upgrades but never a downgrade like this. After insisting for over ten minutes that they solve the issue, they finally relented and gave me a Volkswagen Tiguan. It was barely sufficient to fit my luggage, so I reluctantly accepted it. Back in July, I rented an Audi A3 in the Netherlands and received a Kia Ceed instead—also from Alamo. I let it slide because it was adequate. However, during this European trip, Alamo disappointed me twice. This rental company is incredibly unreliable—there’s a huge gap between the car you reserve and the car you actually get, and they don’t even match the same category. I strongly suspect they exploit language barriers to take advantage of Chinese customers. I highly recommend avoiding Alamo; they're extremely untrustworthy.
