The staff member at Europcar in Barcelona, a man, insisted I purchase their insurance even though I already bought full coverage. After a lengthy back-and-forth, he finally gave in. I rented a Ford Focus but was given a Skoda instead. When returning the car, I had only used one-third of the fuel, yet they charged me over 80 euros. Is Spanish fuel made of gold? I asked the Zuzuche customer service team to inquire about the charges, but after two weeks, I still didn't get a detailed breakdown of the fees. This kind of charge feels very shady. Next time I visit Barcelona, I will personally stop by and address that scoundrel directly.

At pickup, they had various reasons to charge us extra fees for a different car.

The store staff were rude and arrogant.

Overall, it was average compared to my experience with GORENTAL in New Zealand last year. I booked a Golf automatic, but upon arrival, they didn’t have the model and offered me a Volkswagen Touran instead. This car was too big for me, especially in the small towns of Spain. I requested a change and they provided a Citroën C3. I'm not sure if it's the same class as a Golf, but the driving experience was just okay — slow to start but good acceleration later. After receiving the car, the staff didn’t explain anything about the car, such as the location of the tripod, jack, how to use the lights, wipers, how to open the fuel and engine covers, or where to place the driving proof. I had to figure it all out on my own. Besides the order amount, there was an additional charge of 110 dollars as a deposit, which was not as generous as GORENTAL.
