Avis was great- EasyREntCars not so much

Like: Once I found where I was supposed to be, the Avis agent was nice and very tolerant of my pissed off demeanor.
Dislike: When I searched for 'rental cars' in Sitka, AK I tried AVIS first but they were all sold out, so I began looking for any car rental company. EasyRentCars came up in the search. When making the reservation, I selected "Downtown Sitka" as the pick up location, then submitted the reservation. I then received an email saying that it would take 1-3 days for me to receive a confirmation of my reservation. NOT GOOD- I was going to be on a cruise ship with no way of checking email. Also NOT GOOD was that the response had a different pick up location- the Airport- which is NOT downtown Sitka, which meant i would need to take a cab from the ship to the airport. I emailed them and got a snotty response about me not selecting the correct location, which is not true since I know Sitka very well and picked Downtown on purpose. Each port I docked in, I had to try to connect to Wi-Fi to check emails....and not once did I ever receive a confirmation email. So on the day of my arrival, I had no idea if I even had a car or not, or where to pick it up, so I ended up paying for a cab to take me to the airport so I could look for EasyRentCars- which did not exist. I wandered over to the Avis counter to ask the guy if he'd heard of EasyRentCars and oddly enough he had my reservation at the Avis desk and said that EasyREntCars was just a go-between. I was quite pissed at that point...never in any communication with EasyRentCars did they even mention that this was Avis.

I bought the supplementary comprehensive insurance provided by Zuzuche. At the counter during pickup, they added the car rental company's insurance without even asking, charging over 30 dollars a day. Fortunately, I checked the bill and asked them to cancel it. Although the car was relatively new, it was poorly maintained. The interior wasn't very clean and had a lot of cockroaches. The car roof wasn't sealed properly, and when driving over 60 miles per hour, it made a noise like boiling water.

We were given a Buick Encore which is much smaller than the RAV4 we booked. This meant we had to reconfigure the trunk to fit our luggage in. When we started the car a warning light came on - replace oil now. This happened each subsequent time we restarted the car. After investigation the engine oil was nearly exhausted and we spent $96 to replace it. Also the sound card didn't work. This meant no radio and also no sound when the trafficators were activated. The car clearly hadn't been inspected/serviced before we collected it. The process to communicate with Avis, in order to organise a refund of the $96 spent on replacing the engine oil, was difficult. Following return of the car we have now been promised a refund but have not yet received it. In summary not a happy experience and a poor advert for Avis In our opinion the car should not have been allocated to anyone until a full service had been undertaken. Communication with Avis is also difficult. They have an automated call handling system which takes you around in circles

I've used QEEQ before and it works fine. The $1 reserve function is great and, although not triggered in this occasion, the price drop protector is good

Please make sure to have more then 2 employees working at the counter, the waiting time on the evening of the 5th was almost 2 hours!
