Chose a random car rental company on the South Island, but had a great experience. They even added a second driver for free. Communication was smooth, highly recommended!
The car was quite old, and the onboard system was in Japanese. The map even showed Tokyo, Japan, so it seemed like it was a second-hand car from Japan. But fortunately, it ran 2000 km without any issues, which was quite lucky.
