Hertz, being a large company, generally provides good service at their locations. At 9 AM, there was no queue, and there were two staff members available. Although they tried to upsell insurance, you can simply decline it. They were able to fulfill my booking requests, and the staff spoke decent English. I originally booked a Fiat 500 manual, but they didn't have the car available. They first asked if I wanted to upgrade to a Fiat 500 automatic for a fee, which I declined. Eventually, they upgraded me to a compact SUV from a brand I hadn't heard of, DR., which upon research turned out to be a rebadged Chery Tiggo. Considering that I would be driving mostly in the Swiss countryside, the higher ground clearance was acceptable. The car had over 40,000 kilometers on it but was in good, clean condition. If I had been driving mainly in Italy, I would have rejected it due to the challenges of parking a vehicle of that size in urban areas.

We booked a Land Rover on Zuzuche, but upon pickup, Hertz staff requested the driver to provide two credit cards for assurance, which we didn't anticipate. Each of us only had one credit card, so they refused to give us the Land Rover and instead gave us a Volvo V40 without any choice, calling it a 'nice car.' The staff's English was not great, and we didn't want to waste time arguing, so we reluctantly accepted. The price was almost the same as the Land Rover, only cheaper by about ten RMB. At pickup, although the staff assured us the car was in perfect condition, we found scratches on the body and the fuel tank was only half full. However, after communicating with them, they quickly made notes in the rental record, and the process was thankfully not too complicated. Our German friends asked why we rented this car, noting that we couldn't fully experience the fun of driving over 200 km/h on German highways. We were really speechless...

The staff were very helpful, I couldn’t fault them. The car was in good condition, it did have quite a number of dents and scratches and the air conditioning did not work. We were in Italy during summer and at 35 degrees temperatures it got very hot and sweaty in the car. The car wasn’t as clean as I would have expected it to be either. Otherwise mechanically the car was sound. Overall it was a good driving experience in Europe.
