Dollar with QEEQ

Dollar is a well-established car rental brand that operates under the global umbrella of Hertz, one of the most recognized names in the transportation industry. Founded in 1965 by Henry J. Caruso in Los Angeles, California, Dollar has grown into a major player in the rental market, offering reliable service to both leisure and business customers. With a strong emphasis on customer-first values, Dollar has built a reputation for delivering quality vehicles and straightforward booking experiences for a wide range of travel needs.

Now part of a large company structure through its acquisition by Chrysler in 1990—then integrated into the Pentastar Transportation Group—Dollar benefits from the backing of a robust corporate network. This includes affiliations with other brands such as Thrifty and Snappy Rent A Car. Today, Dollar operates over 640 locations across 53 countries, including around 260 offices in major U.S. airports and cities, with an additional 400+ locations in regions like Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Its broad footprint makes it a convenient option for international travelers seeking dependable car hire solutions wherever their journey takes them.

They added about $120 of extra insurance and told me the insurance company would reimburse me for it. Is that really how it works?

Super straightforward experience. The car only had about 10,000 km on it so it felt basically brand new, the driver-assist handled a lot of the driving, and it was a hybrid too.

Really good rental experience overall. The car was very new and fuel-efficient, with just over 5,000 km on it. Just make sure you pay close attention to the parking signs when returning it, otherwise it’s easy to end up in the wrong place.

Got exactly the model we wanted on Oahu, the car was pretty new, well equipped, and having CarPlay made it super easy to use phone navigation. The Dollar counter at Honolulu Airport had a normal line and the wait time was totally acceptable.

When I went to pick up the car I’d booked, the right rear tire was low on pressure, so Dollar immediately upgraded me to a better model. Definitely a five-star experience!!!

Rented a Subaru Outback and it was great for luggage — fit two 26" suitcases, one 24" suitcase and two backpacks with no problem. Fuel economy was solid too, under 7L/100km. After I returned the car, the rental company sent me a bill saying the tank was 8/8 at pickup but only 7/8 at drop-off and charged me $15. I emailed them with a photo of the dashboard at return, and they ended up refunding the $15.

As soon as you walk out of the airport, there’s a car rental counter on the left, but that’s for walk‑in rentals, not the one we booked. Our pickup location was inside the Car Rental area in the parking lot. Check‑in at the counter was great – whenever we didn’t understand something in English, they actually helped translate and clearly went through all the terms. Getting the car was smooth too. We tipped the staff 10 AED, and he patiently explained the key traffic rules. The vehicle inspection was fine, we just uploaded the photos to the app, then he gave us a QR code parking ticket – scan it at the barrier and you can drive straight out.

Tip: use Google Maps Street View in advance to get familiar with the roads and signs so you don’t get lost. Personally, I found Google Maps navigation a bit unfriendly for Chinese users, so I switched to Amap (Gaode). It was almost flawless. Using Amap’s real‑time navigation (not offline), we drove for about 2 hours and only used around 400 MB of data – very efficient. With a 2 GB/day high‑speed data plan, it’s more than enough.

The only small hiccup: on the fourth day, the dashboard showed a low key fob battery warning. I didn’t contact the rental office; I just bought a CR2032 battery at a supermarket and replaced it myself. I did reach out to QEEQ customer service, and they called back promptly to check in. I told them I’d already fixed it by changing the battery, and they still followed up very patiently. Overall, it was a really pleasant experience. (I brought my own dashcam with a suction mount, not adhesive – quick wiring and it worked perfectly.)
