The car pick-up in Vancouver was on time. There was no Toyota RAV4 available, so the rental company provided a Hyundai Tucson. It's a 2023 model, offers good handling, and is fuel-efficient.
The staff at Hertz Vancouver International Airport initially had a very enthusiastic attitude. However, when I declined their offer for an upgraded vehicle and an expensive GPS, their attitude turned indifferent.
The car rental process was very smooth. The staff's attitude was somewhat casual—they seemed indifferent. On the positive side, the vehicle return inspection was relaxed, easily passed, and they didn't push insurance sales. On the downside, it made me a bit nervous, as the information provided felt incomplete—like not being informed that I need to park the car in the car rental area upon return. This is quite crucial and could easily lead to parking in the wrong spot without guidance. There were no extra charges! Initially, a $600 deposit was charged on my card, and the bill indicated $280, which scared me a bit. In the end, after various refunds for the deposit and a fuel fee pre-authorization of $90 (full tank return), the final bill was exactly what the QEEQ app displayed: $160. However, the deposit refund hasn't appeared in my bank account yet. I'll verify and review again once it arrives.
The Hertz front desk staff was very nice. Noticing that my English was limited, they intentionally spoke slower, articulating each word clearly, which was very considerate. During the paperwork process, there were offers to upgrade the vehicle and purchase insurance, but after declining, the service remained warm and enthusiastic. I rented a Corolla but was given a Nissan Sentra instead. The car was good, the seats were very comfortable, though the power was a bit lacking.
The car was in good condition and fairly new. They tried to upsell insurance, but the service was still decent after declining. However, the one-way drop-off fee was very expensive.
This car rental experience was the best I've ever had. Picking up the car was very convenient, and the company upgraded my rental to a Ford ESCAPE, which is a hybrid vehicle. The car was very new, extremely fuel-efficient, and a pleasure to drive. Returning the car was also very easy. I had rented the car for ten days but returned it a day earlier for other reasons. I had expected to be charged for all ten days, but to my surprise, I was only charged for nine days. What a delightful surprise!
The process was quick and the return was also very fast. Although the winter roads were not easy to drive on, I followed the tips provided diligently, paying close attention to road signs and drove carefully. Drivers here mostly follow the rules, so the journey was smooth and safe. Returning the car was simple, and the staff had a good attitude. Just pay attention to the 'car rental return' signs near the airport. The sign texts are in dark gray, so be careful not to take the wrong lane to quickly locate the return parking area.
