Terrible experience. This was the most unpleasant part of our 14-day trip in Spain. The service at this car rental location was extremely poor. I had reserved a 7-seater business vehicle three weeks in advance. When I went to pick up the car at 9 AM on July 24th, I was informed last minute that the vehicle was unavailable. The store manager, a young man, was indifferent and full of excuses. It wasn't until nearly 1 PM that we were finally given a midsize 5-seater SUV. Our family of five had to squeeze into it for 8 days, which brought significant discomfort to our road trip and severely affected our mood.
This experience serves as a serious warning to everyone planning to rent a car in Europe. First of all, the car I reserved was completely different from the one I was given, and the difference was significant. The rental company claimed that the given vehicle was the only one available. Since we were rushing to keep to our itinerary, we didn't argue much. The most outrageous part was that the car we received was actually broken. Initially, when shifting into first gear, the car reversed instead of moving forward. We thought it was just us being unfamiliar with the car's operation, so we didn't pay much attention. However, the issue persisted for about ten minutes. Later, as we were driving towards the parking lot exit, the car completely stalled on an uphill slope and even started smoking. The rental company insisted that the damage was our fault. When the car was handed to us, the fuel level was already close to empty, making it seem like this was a trick being used repeatedly. They directly charged €1500 from my credit card. Now, I’ve filed a complaint and it's already been over a month and a half without any progress. There are many details I won’t elaborate on, but overall, it was a terrible experience. It seriously ruined our travel plans for the day. Not only were we delayed, but we lost over €1500 for a car that didn’t even leave the parking lot. On top of that, they refused to refund the fee for that day’s rental. Honestly, the whole ordeal felt sickening, like eating something disgusting.
The car rental company was very professional and thorough. They carefully explained every detail and quickly processed the return. The deposit was refunded immediately after the inspection.
The check-in process was very smooth. We were delighted to be offered an upgrade that was more spacious (a touring van). This suited our needs perfectly.
However, please give yourself extra time for the return at the Madrid Barajas airport (Terminal 1). There was 1 person jockeying between the desk AND the return lane. We waited over 15 minutes for the return, eating into our window of extra time for the airport. National, get more people working there during peak hours.
When the car was picked up no joint inspection was carried out of the car prior leaving the parking court, furthermore no basic driving features of the car were mentioned. i.e. no hand brakes, stop and start feature, auto lights, reverse parking cameras, i.e. no proper returns address was given incase of returning the car during non trading hours, thus it took as considerable amount of time to locate the venue where we had dropped of the car at 0207 in the morning. Furthermore, there were no redirect phone calls to Malaga office, incase to contact someone. Your documentation needs to be in English, thus we understand what we are signing.
In addition to credit and debit cards, you can now pay for online car rentals with cryptocurrency! Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) are accepted. Curious about how long a Bitcoin transaction takes or how to pay with Bitcoin? Read our FAQs for more details.
